CALENDAR FOR OCTOBER 2026

10/1, 10/3, 10/4:  three opportunities to learn leadership training to help canvassing efforts in our area.  Training will be by zoom from 7 - 8 pm on 10/1, from 5 - 6 pm on 10/3 and from 7 - 8 pm on 10/4. Pick a day that works and spend an hour learning how to train others to connect with voters in person.

10/2, 10/9, 10/23, 10/30:  sign-waving in Cleveland, GA., from 4 - 6 pm, at the corner of Main Street and Helen Highway in front of Ingles.  Bring your own sign or wave one of ours. Join a great group of compassionate citizens every Friday, feel empowered and help us make a difference!  Note: 

10/4, 10/11, 10/18/, 10/25:  canvassing Democrats and leaning Democrats in White County to encourage everyone to vote, 1 - 4 pm starting and ending at the Cleveland Library, 10 Colonial Drive, Cleveland.

10/5:  postcard writing pizza party at Tammy and Gary Burrows, 3 - 6 pm at their home.  RSVP to this at whitecountydems@gmail.com for directions to their house.

10/5:  Last day to register to vote at the White County Board of Elections and Registration, 1241 Helen Highway, suite 201, Cleveland, GA.  Get registered and make a plan to vote!

10/11:  volunteer training for the Matthew 25 Alliance, a group helping individuals and families at risk of or experiencing homelessness in Habersham and White counties, 1 pm at the First Baptist Church in Cornelia, GA.  The Matthew 25 Alliance is a group of concerned churches  working together to provide assistance to individuals and families that need help getting identity documents or getting connected to community resources.  During winter months, M25A will also be operating warming centers that will provide meals and a warm place to spend the night for folks in need.  Contact Jim Sweeney  at jimsweeney102@gmail.com to sign up for volunteer training.  

10/11 - 10/17:    provide an evening meal for families temporarily staying with Family Promise, an organization that helps families get back on their feet financially.  Gary Burrows coordinates this effort and will have information on the number of people to cook for as well as when and where to deliver the food.  Contact him at garyg.burrows@comcast.net.

10/13 - 30:  Early voting at the White County Elections and Registration office, 1241 Helen Hwy., Cleveland, 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Saturday.  Let your voice be heard! 

10/17:  NO KINGS IN CLEVELAND!  Sign waving at the corner of Helen Hwy. and Main St. in Cleveland, 1 pm in front of Ingles.  Please join us as we make our voices heard!

10/22:  Next meeting of the White County Democratic Committee, 6:30 pm at the Cleveland Library, 10 Colonial Drive, Cleveland.  We will be collecting canned food and diapers for the Cleveland Care Center.

10/24:  Simple Breakfast at the Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Center, 283 Highway 255 N., Sautee Nacoochee, GA from 8-10 am.  Come enjoy a free pancake breakfast with friends and neighbors- donations appreciated.  Gene White of Community Helping Hands Clinic in Cleveland will be on hand to talk about how, through donations and volunteers, the free clinic provides healthcare to White County and the surrounding area that is medically underserved.

10/28:  Free food distribution at the First Presbyterian Church, 147 N. Main Street, Cleveland, GA. from 9:15 am to 1:00 pm.  Come help pack and distribute food to whomever is in need- volunteers have a true sense of camaraderie at this event and recipients are very appreciative.

10/29 and 10/30:  "Where Do You Draw the Line" event in Clarkesville and Cleveland, GA.  A united effort and a final push before the election!  Thursday, meet in Clarkesville on the square from 3:30 to 5 pm and on Friday, in Cleveland in front of Ingles, corner of Helen Hwy. and Main St. from 4 to 6 pm.  We have the banner and signs- bring your determination! We hope to see a big group of united protestors at both events!!
